2012 Pazz and Jop Critics Poll Results revealed: Frank Ocean's Channel Orange and Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" the most critically acclaimed album and single of 2012, respectively.I'm really pleased with the singles list. "Call Me Maybe" is an obvious choice for #1 and I certainly have no qualms with its placement. It's also very nice to see two of my favourite songs of the year, "Adorn" by Miguel (#2) and "Losing You" by Solange Knowles (#7), both in the top ten. Of course, Frank Ocean is well-represented on that list with two songs in the top ten ("Thinkin' Bout You" and "Pyramids") and while "Gangnam Style" is a fun song, its placement at #12 seems about right to me. I also feel a little more validated for enjoying "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" (#6). No surprises on the album list. I think everyone expected Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar and Fiona Apple to be 1-2-3 in that order. Nice to see Japandroids and Miguel rounding out the top five, even though I don't quite like those albums that much myself. Wouldn't mind seeing Loudon Wainwright III, The Mountain Goats and Todd Snider all higher, but top 40 is still nice for those albums.
