The game du jour for space and physics (and space physics) fans, Kerbal Space Program is currently in its beta phase and consists of a sandbox with huge latitude for creating rockets, rovers, orbiters, and habitats of all shapes and sizes, thinking logistically about their weight, physical properties, and functions, and then launching them into a fully-featured solar system that, while physically smaller than our own (for convenience's sake) has seven different planets and nine moons that can be landed on. It's a game with a steep learning curve; getting to the Mun (moon equivalent) is tough. Getting back is a challenge. Doing anything else seems (at first) to be impossible. But because of that difficulty it gives achievements a real sense of accomplishment. There's no campaign mode yet; all tasks and challenges are self-assigned. The fact that you could just be screwing around with rockets that hilariously blow up on the launchpad makes your actual serious efforts much more satisfying. Has anyone else here played it? There's a free demo available here, consisting of just Kerbin and the Mun and a few stock parts.

I think this game would probably destroy my fragile brain, but it seems like a really cool concept.
